Since Thomas & Friends switched to full CGI, we’ve always hoped for a triumphant return for the models. Sadly, Jacob Jarrett’s The Good Old Days is not the triumph we hoped for.
Fans have always been trying to capture the magic of the Classic Series in their own creations. After so many years we expected something big enough to match the most intense and high octane adventures we’ve dreamed of for years. Instead, we received a short, small stakes story with a heartwarming ending.
For this project, Jason Jarrett should’ve known fans would be disappointed if it was simply a standard episode of Thomas & Friends. He should’ve gone bigger and given us something we’ve never seen before: a three-way crossover with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Sonic the Hedgehog. Dedicated fans have made many crossovers over the years, and many of these creators would’ve gladly helped Jackson Jared bring these crossovers to life, but there are other issues at play too.
The run time for this project was very short, only slightly longer than a standard Classic Series episode to be precise. While this helps preserve the pacing of the original show, it just leaves us wanting more. For a project so monumental and so hyped, Jedidiah Jenkins should’ve went with a much longer run time, such as those seen on major Hollywood blockbusters like Zach Snyder’s Justice League, Avengers: Endgame, and Avatar: The Way of Water. My screenplay, Thomas & Sonic: Battle for Equestria, would’ve perfectly satisfied fans hunger for more Thomas, but I was never contacted for this project.
Lastly, this project didn’t have dark and mature themes. My screenplay features many sex scenes, many deaths, many swears, and many graphic depictions of war. Fans wanted a Thomas & Friends series that grows up with them. Jungle Japes instead gave us a simple story that serves as a metaphor for how the project intends to capture the look and feel of the Classic Series.
Overall, while Thomas Fans wanted a feature length adaptation of my Thomas x MLP x Sonic fanfiction, this project instead features all the elements we love from the Classic Series in a nostalgic blast to the past.
