Earlier this week, the New York Times posted an article urging their readers to boycott Sir Topham Hatt’s Railway due to his supposed connections to Trump.
“We cannot stand for an organization that so blatantly displays support for a man as racist and as homophobic as Donald Trump.” The article read. “If you care about showing these big businesses that we don’t support their pro-Trump narratives, then join us in boycotting the North Western Railway.”
The evidence they put forward to showcase how Sir Topham Hatt shows his support for Donald Trump shocked many people and left Thomas Fans feeling ill.
“Sir Topham Hatt blatantly advertises Trumps campaign by letting an Engine with the word ‘Donald’ plastered on its side work the so-called ‘Little Western’ Branch Line.” The Times explained. “We cannot allow such offensive and harmful political statements to be paraded around as if they’re something to be proud of.”

After the article was published, Sir Topham Hatt was forced to publicly respond to the backlash.
“My Engine has been named Donald since before he was bought by this Railway in 1959.” Hatt stated. “He’s probably had this name longer than your Commander in Chief has, and he should be allowed to keep it.”
But Hatt’s statement didn’t go over well, and once more articles came out, things weren’t looking very good for him.
“Not only did Hatt not apologize for supporting Trump, he doubled down on his naming of this engine.” The Wall Street Journal claimed in their story. “He didn’t learn from his mistakes, he just told the world they were wrong.”
The public seemed to not favor Sir Topham in this situation. Many people even started to try and boycott the NWR.
“Won’t be taking Thomas’ Branch Line to work anymore.” Said one Passenger. “I’ll be taking the bus from now on.”
Sir Topham Hatt is expected to make another response later today to try and salvage his Railway’s Reputation.
The sad thing is that this one just seems too real to me. I’m sure that something like this could really happen if the rest of the world wouldn’t ignore Sodor.
