Mattel Steals Fan Film

The Original Fan Film (Left) compared to Mattel’s Clone (Right)

Mattel has been criticized by fans on many occasions for many reasons, but when the trailer for Journey Beyond Sodor released, Fans were more appalled than ever.

They were shocked as the title and concept for the film was strikingly similar to a fan production titled, Journey Beyond Sodor – How It Should Be. Many fans were quick to call out the blatant plagiarism on display.

“All they did was take ‘How It Should Be‘ out of the title and leave it at that,” said YouTube user and Thomas fan, Matt Nick, “Even the characters in the trailer look exactly like the ones from the JBS Group’s movie.”

Mattel’s new movie boasts that Thomas is leaving Sodor for the first time and will be held hostage at a mysterious Steelworks. The similarities with the original Fan Film’s plot didn’t go unnoticed.

“What the hell, Mattel? Our movie is about James getting kidnapped at a Steelworks. You just switched the roles around.” A member of the JBS Group exclaimed. “We put a lot of work and passion into this film, and you guys just come in and steal all of our hard work.”

Although most fans were outraged and didn’t hide their feelings, many looked the other way.

Journey Beyond Sodor – How It Should Be sucks and everyone who was involved is a man child.” Explained Chase Tedsworth. “I wrote a 10 tweet long rant about it before I had even seen it, so I know what I’m talking about when I say, ‘I’m glad Mattel is stealing their movie.'”

Although a big fuss was made, Mattel seemed to ignore all criticisms surrounding their blatant copy.

“I just want credit for our ideas being used.” Stated another member of the JBS Group. “I don’t want money or anything, just some acknowledgment that I contributed to the movie.”
