We all know the tragedy of Chris Tomson’s Van: In the dreaded September of 2013, criminals stole the specially designed Van from Chris Tomson’s home along with a television and mobile phone.
For years, this was the story we knew. Until recently when Chris Tomson’s Van finally spoke out.
“I wasn’t stolen. I was just really bored of the same old, same old, and asked some kids walking by one day to take me away.” Vance the Van said after getting in contact with us. “I was kinda sad to leave Chris, but I just needed a change of scenery.”
We asked if he considered his actions irresponsible.
“I guess I did sometimes feel irresponsible for asking two strangers to take me away. And I feel sorry leaving Chris without transportation.” Vance answered. “But it was a risk I had to take for the sake of my mental health.”
Vance asked two teens, Rob Barry and his girlfriend Steele Stein, to drive him all the way to the Island of Sodor. They had already planned on running away together so they agreed to Vance’s request.
“Vance was very somber and silent on the journey beyond the mainland, but once he saw the Vicarstown Bridge, he perked up and honked a great big honk.” Said Stein. “He was full of energy and ready to see the wonders of the Island.”
When asked why they stole the Television and Phone, the Teens pleaded the fifth. When reminded that they weren’t in the USA, they kicked us out of their Knapford apartment. The Sudrian Police Department told us that they would investigate their apartment.
“I heard Chris eventually got a new Van, and I’m happy for him. I’m glad things worked out.” Vance announced excitedly. “I’m still sorry for leaving him without a Van for a while, but I’m glad he has someone looking out for him now.”
Vance the Van currently works on the Island of Sodor giving free rides to the disabled so that everyone on Sodor is able to get to where they need to be no matter what.
